An international market leader, Fraport AG is the company operating the Frankfurt Airport, Germany’s busiest air traffic hub. In collaboration with the architectural firm Belzner Holmes of Stuttgart, Westiform has fitted a wall in the arrival passageway of terminal 1 at the airport with modern LED illuminated signage elements.
Already when entering the new passageway, the different-sized, just 45-mm-deep illuminated lettering is the ultimate eye-catcher, greeting arriving passengers in nine different languages. The lettering consists of a relief made of aluminium and a letter front made from white, translucent polycarbonate. Energy-efficient, daylight-white LEDs ensure homogeneous illumination.
The lettering features 49 individual LED tubes, individually varying from one to three metres in length, with a total of 96 metres installed overall. The special thing about the installation is the individually controllable and wave-like colour pattern of the LEDs: Fraport AG has programmed the display to reproduce the ideal walking speed of passers-by, keeping it constant and actively supporting it.
Westiform was active in this project from planning and development to production and installation as the general contractor.
